About Therapy with Me

About Img 1Therapy is about positive change.

The relationship between you and me sets the foundation for therapy. I tell all my patients that most things happening in their lives will show up in the office.

I want my clients to know how change happens. As a client, you must be willing to take a risk and trust that someone wants to understand how the world looks and feels from your perspective. I’m interested in understanding that.

Therapy can be difficult work. Although you might wish for something to change in your life, you can simultaneously resist it because the unknown can be scary, and what we know is more straightforward to accept than what we don’t.

In our work, I will encourage you to examine aspects of yourself, challenge you to try new perspectives, and support you in facilitating change when needed.

Therapy can also be fun and exciting!

I want to help you celebrate your wins and learn more about yourself. I also have a good sense of humor and am not afraid to use it. Humor is one of the best tools for transforming the untenable into the bearable and the pretty good into the ecstatic.

I’m a talk therapist, meaning I help you put your thoughts, feelings, and impulses into words. Most of us grew up in families that didn’t know how to do that. If you cried, someone asked you why and/or told you not to. If you saw someone get angry, it reminded you that this is not the way you want to behave.

Where did you learn to talk about the world that is happening inside of you right now? It’s time to start that conversation.

About Shanon Sitkin, MA, MFT

AdminBecoming a therapist requires training.

I earned my master’s degree in counseling at the California Institute of Integral Studies and trained in Modern Analysis at the Center for Group Studies in New York City. I have extensive training in group analysis, and I use those insights and ideas in my work with individuals and couples.

I have learned things about being successful and want to help you. Yes, I have many good credentials, but what matters most is that I know the value of vitality, aliveness, and connection, which I want to help you achieve. It’s not as far as you think.

When I’m not at work, I’m usually experimenting in the kitchen, exploring the city, or spending time with my family.
